• (English by fugu) The Toudou Main Martial Arts Building is the largest privately owned modern-style stadium facility in Japan. The facility is a dome style,smaller only than the Tokyo Dome, and which we have tremendous confidence in. The main use is for the Imperial Tournament and Election Tournament that lead up to it. Club activities are not permitted. Setting foot on this stage is evidence that you are one of the school's elite. Here at Toudou Gakuen all sorts of Martial Arts Buildings exist, from the largest #1 to the smallest #28.

• (English by fugu) Auditoriums 1-3 are used by the strongest of all the groups as their group's club room. Auditoriums 1 and 2 are reserved for use by male groups, Auditorium 3 is for female groups, and they act as organizational headquarters for them. The 3rd Auditorium has been controlled by the Naginata [long sword] group ever since the fouding of the school. For a very long time the 6th Auditorium was controlled by the 1st Karate Group, but now it is controlled by the Jyuukenbu. Standing before the awesome facade of one of these buildings would make anyone aware of their insignificance.

The campus is split in the East (Bldgs 1-3), West (4-7), and South (8-12) campuses. The East campus is hardly ever used, and since the number of students is increasing there is a plan to demolish those buildings for new construction.

• (English by fugu) Immediately after the Meiji Restoration, when a group with political power demolished a massive castle that was on these grounds, our Toudou Gakuen was founded, over 130 years ago. Since it was founded, almost every young person from each branch of the Martial Arts has gathered and trained here, almost like the training grounds from the Edo period. Times have changed, and in this modern age when the Japanese have lost their spirit, Toudou Gakuen continues its harsh spiritual education as always. There is a saying "A warrior waits for 3 days, and observes." We believe that these words will help the young students here to develop. For those students that want to learn about the ancient Japanese mentality, and the mentality to carry Japan forward into the future, our school gates are always open!

There are currently 52 Model Warriors, almost all of them graduated from this school. Every one of them is confident that not just in brains, but in Martial Arts they will not lose to the students.

• (English by fugu) Toudou Gakuen's yearly schedule is shown above. It is quite different from a regular school's schedule. The most unique among them is the Imperial Tournament.All of the different martial arts groups from Japan participate in the Imperial Tournament, which is supposed to be a tournament that doesn't discriminate on the style or goals of the groups involved.The winner of the government-backed tournament is said to stand atop the martial arts world. Of course the winnder, and the group he is attached to, holds great influence afterwards. This competition is noticed by martial artists, fans, the media, and even politicians. For examle, the former Chief Cabinent Secretary won the event.

• (Japanese by fugu) さらに我が学園では、運動系の行事が数々用意されている。 まずは夏休みに行われる水練会。 いわゆる水泳大会なのだが、 普通と違う所は古式泳法があり、 甲冑を着たままの競技や、 忍者泳法の競技もあるところ。 日本の中でも我が校だけの大会であろう。 そして次に紹介するのが、 部会対抗牙戦。 各部活動代表者が集まった体育祭なのだが、競技は騎馬戦のみ。 天覧武会予備戦で苦汁を飲んだ部にとっては、 その雪辱をはらず場になっている。 格闘技とは違うので、 さまざまな番狂わせが起こりやすい、 非常に予断を許さない大会である。 次は２、３学期末テスト終了の直後に行われる育練会。 部活動対抗の大会が多い中、これは唯一のクラス対抗大会である。 毎回違う競技をトーナメントで戦うのだが、格闘技だけではなく、球技のときもある。 最近の種目は、モンゴル相撲、クリケット、ドッジボールと予測の付かないものとなっている、とても面白い大会なのだ。
• (English by fugu) There are many physical event activities organized at our school. First is the swimming competition in the summer. It is a normal swimming event but includes old-fashioned swimming styles, like swimming in full armor, or swimming events for Ninja. There are also events that are only held at our school. Next we'll introduce the group competition events. One of the physical education events takes representatives from each group but only has horse-back competitions. For the groups that tasted bitter defeat at the Imperial Tournament/Election Tournament it is a good chance to distance themselves from their shame. Since it is different from Martial Arts, there are often upsets, and it is extremely hard to predict the outcome of these competitions. Next are the phsyical education events that take place after the 2nd and 3rd semesters. While there are many inter-group competitions, this is the only class-level competition. Each time there is a new event used for the tournament, and they are not always Martial Arts related, sometimes they are ball games. Lately the difficult to predict events have been Mongolian Sumo, Cricket, and Dodgeball, making for a very interesting tournament.

• (Japanese by fugu) 日本古来の文化を大切にする我が学園では、正月には初釜式、御柱祭という行事をとりおこなっている。 初釜式は文化部唯一の見せ場とあって、文化部の生徒たちが冬休み返上で頑張るその姿には心打たれるものがある。 そして御柱で優勝した者は、その年の福男称号が与えられ、１年間成績評価も甘くなるというメリットもあるため、全生徒が必死にその座を狙う、非常に熱い大会になっている。 ちなみに今年の福男は執行部顧問俵文七君。 ほかにはない行事が数多くある統道学園。 あなたも当学園に入学すれば、パラダイスのような生活に浸れること間違いなしである！
• (English by fugu) At our school we view culture and tradition as very important, and have the 1st Tea Ceremony and Great Pillar ceremonies in the new year. The 1st Tea Ceremony is the only time the cultural groups have an exhibit, so the culture groups' students work feverishly through the fall on it. Then, the winner of the Great Piller ceremony is awarded the title of "Lucky Person" that year, with the benefit that all their grades are given a boost, so all the students desperately try to earn that seat, making for a very spirited competition. Interestingly, this year the "Lucky Person" is the Enforcement Group's Advisor, Tawara Bunshichi-kun. There are many more events here at Toudou Gakuen. If you join our school, there is no mistake that you will also be able to take part in the floor of events available in this Paradise!

• (English by fugu) The student government at Toudou Gakuen is unique. There is no election process at all like you would have at a normal school, instead the position of the Student Government Enforcement Group is decided entirely by the winning group of the Imperial Tournament Election Tournament. There is that kind of consistancy there. In other words, it is an important consistancy for our "real history." Modern day academics have squeezed together all of the collected wisdom and constructed this tale.
• (English by fugu) [Trans. Note] This is a pretty complicated paragraph here. I'll comment on a few things. I don't know about the legend of the Yamato no Orochi, so I should look that up. The Kusanagi is one of Japan's three national treasures (the sword of the sword, jewel, and mirror) so maybe I should write a bit about that too. I know nothing about the Amanomurakumo blade. Finally, Oh!Great's talk about the academics (which really he said 優秀な人たち - various superior people) having "strangled" "collected wisdom" is strange to me - I'm not sure what he is saying, so you get my best interpretation.

Jeez, this is getting so dark (laughs). Like the portrayal of Souichirou's childhood. Were there portions where you were forced to depict that sort of "blood", or passion (laughs) of the Kyuushyuu people?

Note] The "un-ruleable people" is my crappy translation of “まつろわぬ民”- I'm not really up on my Japanese history (I'm a computer science phd student) but from what I could gather, these are the people that did not submit to the rule of the Imperial Court (this is a long, long time ago) and hid out in the mountains, fighting. Of course they have their origins in the gods that made an appearance in the Kojiki. I think it's a bit unfair, but in reality I think that sometimes there are people like this. He's overflowing with gallant spirit. He's playing an injurious role but he used to have some very sweet points. He's currently called Double Impact because of a high speed one-two straight-armed punch, and it came to be representative of his technique, and he became a genius at fighting.

• (English by fugu) The leader of the Spear troup, which goes in after the main archery forces. I modeled them after the 7 Spears of Shizugaoka. They became the 8 spears because I unified the image of Mataza's Spider and the Spears. Since it was a real pain to draw the actual machine he carried on his back, I really hesistated to do a two page spread of him. I like him because his character stands out.

• (English by fugu) The Takayanagi family controls the top of the Japanese Martial Arts world. I don't know the details but it has been this way since ancient times. They say that the heroes of ancient myths and legends were the Takayanagi ancestors, but that is just the prevailing modern interpretation. They are a family of charismatic heroes, and the descendants of the families that came to their aid are the 12 Founding Families. They have been careful to keep their lineage pure since the ancient times so they are the same as back then. For that reason, the Takayangi family and the 12 Founding Families have a sort of counter-measure relationship, and you can say that the Takayanagi family is representative of the 12 Founding Families. But the Takayanagi's fundamentally have stronger abilities due to their direct relationship to the heroes of the past.
